"The Master Butchers Singing Club"

my take: Isn't it interesting that the timing of when one reads a book very much affects the experience? After reading a WWI novel (The Sojourn) and The Magician's AssistantButchers seemed vaguely familiar. And that wasn't a bad thing.

Butchers spans the time period from WWI to beyond WWII and mostly takes place in North Dakota where German immigrants settled. The singing club brings together an odd assortment of town folks ...  and those folks have lots of secrets.

Very engaging, a bit of intrigue, plot twists ... enjoyed this very much.

my source: Physical Therapist Jack, several years ago ... discovered at a second hand book store in Chicago

my verdict: great read

  1. I've read quite a few Louise Erdrich and like her a lot but don't know anything about this one... sounds like it's not about Native Americans as most of the ones I have encountered from her? Will have to add it to my list - I always like the way she writes intrigue/plot twists.
