"the dead father's club"

my take: we at book chicks like to think of ourselves as shakespeare experts since reading will in the world.  and we've read edgar sawtelle, so really we are steeped in will's works .... or at least can compare this re-telling of hamlet to edgar.

like edgar, it's told from a young boy's perspective and set in modern times. i think this version has more ambiguity - did his parents have a good relationship? did his uncle kill him? who is the bad guy?

this version throws in lots of ghosts. they are the dead fathers club. and they are not always helpful. hard to know who to trust.

i really appreciated the new twist on ophelia and the ending.  a great story and we had a good discussion. and food and wine.

my source: book chicks May pick

my take: worth a read - especially if you are a Shakespeare fan

  1. Hmm, I never read Edgar, or heard about this one. More to add to my list! Maybe I can get a book club to pick it.
